The raffle prize drawing will be just a small part of an afternoon of festivities which include the swearing in of new officers and end of term celebrations. Raffle tickets for a country ham donated by Jan Fatka can be purchased for .25 each. In addition to the ham raffle the Historical Society is sponsoring its first Christmas Raffle, which we hope to make an annual event. This year the prizes include: the two volume set of Kentucky Gun Makers (Volume I: Gun Making History Vol. Biographies by Shelby Gallien (1st prize) donated by Bill Baker; two tickets, plus parking pass, for the December 21st matinée performance of Cincinnati’s Play House in the Park production of Tenderly—the Rosemary Clooney Musical (2nd prize) donated by Rita R. Thomas; and a Sean Moral painting (approx.. 16” X 29” (3rd prize) donated by Caroline Miller. Christmas Raffle tickets cost $2 each. Christmas Raffle tickets will be available for sale at the PVA office in Brooksville and at the General Store in Augusta. Additionally, tickets for both raffles can be purchased through any Historical Society member, or at the Bracken County Historical Society Office during its normal hours of operation (Friday 10:00AM-4:00PM, or Saturday 10:00AM-12:00PM) or can be purchased the day of Christmas Social.
The fun of an old time Christmas Social will start at 2:00PM. The Historical Society invites members of the community to join them for an afternoon of holiday entertainment and refreshments. Festivities will include child friendly activities such as decorating gingerbread cookies, playing old fashioned board games, and the making and personalizing of tree ornaments for the trimming of the Historical Society’s Christmas tree for White Christmas Parade the following weekend. For the adults of the community, our Silent Night Auction offers up for bid some unique items donated by members of the society—guaranteed treasures! Bidding will begin 2:00PM and close at 5:00PM with winning bidders announced following the ham and Christmas raffle winners.
In addition to the Christmas Raffle and Silent Night auction, the society will be offering the opportunity to purchase Memorial Christmas Trees which will be put on display throughout the month of December in both the communities of Brooksville and Augusta. During the holidays we remember the ones that have gone before us. Through the purchase of a memorial tree, your loved ones’ name(s) will be displayed and remembered by all members of the community who come to see the display. You may choose in which community to display your family’s memorial tree and the text which will be written on the memorial sign. Each tree will be decorated with a beautiful bow and remain lit throughout the holiday season as a burning symbol of remembrance to your loved ones. Trees can be purchased for $75 through December 6th, and the community displays will be opened on December 13th. Memorial trees can be purchased at the Historical Society Office or can be purchased the day of Christmas Social.
During the Christmas Social we invite the community to join us in an old fashioned tree trimming and Christmas Caroling, you can bring your own ornament to hang on the tree, or purchase an ornament to personalize during the festivities. Members of the Bracken County Historical Society are invited to attend the annual swearing in ceremony at 12:30PM, followed by a luncheon which will precede the kickoff of the Christmas Social. The luncheon will be catered by Patty Cakes and cost $20 per person. If you plan on attending the luncheon you are asked to RSVP to the Bracken County Historical Society by calling 606-756-3337, or emailing email@example.com BEFORE December 1, 2014.
