Bracken County Courthouse Celebrates Centennial with Special Commemoration Festival
On Saturday, June 13, 2015 the Bracken County Historical Society will sponsor a festival of events to celebrate the Centennial of the Bracken County Court House. The day’s events will kick off at 10:00am with a commemorative program held on the Court House lawn featuring local historians, past and present elected officials recognizing the historical significance of the local landmark in our community. The program will also feature period music presented by the Bracken County Community & Alumni Band. Also, members of the community are invited to dress in period dress for this event to make the celebration a true commemoration of what it was like in Bracken County 100 years ago! Immediately following the program the public will be invited to see the refurbished court room and the artifacts found during refurbishment. The Bracken County Extension Homemakers will serve light refreshments on the portico of the Court House after the ceremony. Also, immediately following the conclusion of the ceremony, the Haley House Museum will be opening for free tours.
Additionally, the Bracken County Historical Society will be sponsoring a Local Sweet Treats Bake Sale across from the Court House Square in the yard next to the Haley House Museum on Miami Street from 10:00am until inventory is gone! The selections will feature Crème Cakes, Blackberry Jam Cakes, Transparent Tarts, Transparent Pies, Lemon Bars, Deluxe Brownies, and other scrumptious goodies.
As you shop for goodies, be sure to take the opportunity to tour the Haley House Museum, the new home of the Bracken County Historical Society. There is no charge for the tour and you can spend time perusing the collections and see rare pictures, documents, and furniture from Bracken County. You will find it the perfect opportunity to hang around until the start of the main afternoon event—the Kentucky Collectibles Auction!
Starting at 1:30pm, the first annual Kentucky Collectible Auction will be held on the lawn of the Haley House Museum. The auction will feature local antiques and collectibles auctioned by Perry Poe. Some chairs will be provided, but to guarantee a seat for this auction bring a folding chair, and your keen sense of a great value! Don’t miss this opportunity to own a piece of Bracken County history!
Remember to mark your calendar and share the news of this community celebration with your friends & family! See you there!
